Tickets

STATION TICKET VENDING MACHINES
All Ticket Vending Machines accept credit, debit and RTA Transit Benefit cards and dispense all ticket types. Machines are located at South Bend, Carroll Ave., 11th St. in Michigan City, Beverly Shores, Dune Park, Miller, Gary Metro, Gary/Chicago Airport, East Chicago, Hammond, Hegewisch, 57th St., Museum Campus/11th St., Van Buren and Millennium Stations.

Credit cards accepted: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

Train

BUY ON THE TRAIN
You can pay with cash on the train for a one-way ticket. A $1.00 service fee will be charged for tickets purchased on the train when a ticket agent was present at the departure station.

Purchase one-way tickets, multiple-ride tickets and monthly passes online to be sent to your South Shore mobile app.

Letter

ONLINE (MAILED TO YOUR HOME ADDRESS) Purchase multiple-ride tickets and monthly passes to be mailed to your home address. A $2.00 service fee will be charged for your entire online ticket order. Allow 5-7 business days for delivery.

Info Card

TICKET AGENT
All ticket types, including monthly tickets, are available from our ticket agents. Agents are available weekdays at Carroll Ave.; Sunday thru Saturday at Millennium. Please note the South Bend ticket agent office is temporarily closed as of July 11, 2022. Agents accept cash or checks. Millennium Station agents also accept credit cards.

 

South Shore Line Fares

South Shore Line offers certain fare discounts and incentives.

Kids Ride Free

Up to three children 13 years of age and under rides FREE with an accompanying adult on all weekend and holiday trains and weekday trains arriving at Millennium Station after 9:30 a.m. and departing before 3:30 p.m. and after 6:30 p.m. Other children 13 years of age and under ride at reduced (1/2) fare at all times.

An accompanying adult must be a parent or legal guardian and at least 21 years of age.

Youth Fare

Passengers 13 years of age or younger are eligible for reduced fare travel. Train personnel reserve the right to request proof of age.

Student, Commuting

Reduced fare for youths commuting to accredited elementary , middle 
and high schools. To qualify for a reduced one-way or 25-ride ticket, contact NICTD or a 
ticket agent for an application and more information.

Senior Fare

Passengers 65 years of age or older are eligible for reduced fares on all trains. To qualify, present proof of age (driver’s license, other government-issued I.D., RTA, or Medicare card) at time of purchase. Seniors qualified for “Senior Ride Free” RTA Reduced Fare Card ride free between Hegewisch and Chicago.

Passengers with Disabilities

All passengers displaying RTA Reduced Fare Permit, NICTD Disability Identification Card, or Medicare card are eligible for reduced fares on all South Shore Line trains when ID is shown. Contact South Shore Line for information or click here for an application. For train information in alternate formats call 312-836-7000 or TDD through Indiana Relay Services at 800-743-3333. Illinois residents with a disability displaying a RTA issued Ride Free Permit card may ride free between Hegewisch and Chicago.

Individuals applying for a RTA reduced fare permit may call 312-913-3110.

Military, Active

Active duty military personnel with a Uniformed Services
Common Access Card (CAC) may travel at reduced fare at all times.

Groups

For groups of 10 or more passengers, call (219) 874-4221, ext. 245 at least 14 days in advance for special group rates.

Purchase Tickets


*One-way tickets expire 90 days from date of purchase. Multiple ride tickets expire one year from date of purchase. Monthly paper tickets expire at noon on the first business day of the following month. Electronic monthly tickets expire at midnight on the last calendar day of the month.

 

 

*Unused tickets offered for redemption must be mailed or surrendered to a SSL ticket agent no later than the first weekday (excluding holidays) following the expiration limit of the ticket to retain any redemption value. Refunds for Monthly Tickets will be based on when ticket is surrender to South Shore Line. Any value will be calculated using the 25-ride pro-rated cost. Typically monthly tickets lose any refund value after the 15th business day of the month. Multiple Ride unused tickets, or portions thereof, will be redeemed on the basis of the difference between the one-way fare for each ride used and the amount originally paid for the ticket.
